Fuvahmulah City Council has strengthened international awareness of Fuvahmulah as a distinctive tourism and diving destination through its participation in the Malaysia edition of the Diving, Resort & Travel (DRT) Expo held in Kuala Lumpur. The exhibition brought together a wide cross-section of dive enthusiasts, travel professionals, tour operators and destination representatives from across Asia and beyond, offering an important platform for destinations to present their offerings directly to key international markets. Through its presence at the expo, the City Council engaged with industry stakeholders and travellers, highlighting Fuvahmulah’s growing profile as a world-class dive destination and an emerging choice for specialised marine tourism.

The City Council participated under Discover Fuvahmulah, the official destination brand responsible for positioning and promoting the island internationally. Discover Fuvahmulah leads marketing efforts through coordinated branding, digital outreach, and participation in major tourism and dive exhibitions, with a focus on presenting Fuvahmulah as a single-island destination known for its rich marine life, accessible dive sites and authentic island experiences. At the Kuala Lumpur edition of the expo, Fuvahmulah received the Tiger Shark Dive Award, recognising the island’s reputation for consistent, year-round tiger shark encounters and reinforcing its standing among the global diving community.

Fuvahmulah has become widely regarded as one of the few destinations in the world where divers can reliably encounter tiger sharks close to shore throughout the year. This rare natural advantage has positioned the island as a high-demand destination for experienced divers, underwater photographers and marine life enthusiasts seeking unique and responsible wildlife encounters. Beyond tiger sharks, the surrounding waters are home to a diverse range of pelagic species, reef sharks, manta rays and vibrant coral ecosystems, making Fuvahmulah attractive for both recreational and advanced diving markets.

The recognition received at DRT Expo Kuala Lumpur reflects the sustained efforts of the City Council and local stakeholders to elevate Fuvahmulah’s international visibility and strengthen its reputation as a premium niche tourism destination. Participation in such exhibitions supports direct engagement with dive operators, travel agents and tour planners, opening opportunities for new partnerships, increased bookings and broader market access.

Through Discover Fuvahmulah, the City Council continues to present a cohesive destination identity that highlights marine biodiversity, responsible tourism practices and the island’s welcoming community. These ongoing promotional initiatives align with broader objectives to diversify the local economy, support sustainable tourism development and ensure that Fuvahmulah remains competitive within the global dive and travel marketplace.
