The Maldives has crossed the milestone of 200,000 tourist arrivals for the year, reflecting sustained global confidence in the destination and the continued appeal of its world-renowned resort offerings, according to the latest weekly update released by Ministry of Tourism. As of the 28th of this month, a total of 200,801 visitors have arrived in Maldives, representing a 3.9 percent increase compared to 193,174 arrivals recorded during the same period last year. Tourism authorities note that this is the fastest pace at which the country has reached the 200,000-visitor mark, highlighting the strong start to the year and the effectiveness of ongoing destination promotion and air connectivity expansion.

Arrival trends throughout the month demonstrate consistent and healthy demand, with the highest single-day total recorded on the 11th, when 9,596 tourists entered the country. Current data shows that Maldives is welcoming an average of 7,171 visitors per day, underscoring steady momentum across international markets. This performance reflects the continued strength of the nation’s resort-based tourism model, which combines luxury accommodation, exceptional service standards, privacy, and natural beauty to deliver distinctive and memorable travel experiences.

Russia has emerged as the leading source market so far this year, while China, which was the largest source market at the end of last year, is showing rapid growth in arrivals. Italy continues to maintain a strong presence among top source markets. The three highest contributing countries this year are Russia with 26,965 arrivals, Italy with 21,137 arrivals, and China with 18,531 arrivals. The diversity of these markets illustrates Maldives’ broad international appeal and the effectiveness of targeted marketing strategies in Europe and Asia.

The majority of tourists have arrived through international gateways, with the highest volumes recorded at Maafaru International Airport and Gan International Airport. So far this year, 198,329 visitors have entered the country via international airports, while 714 arrivals were recorded through Maafaru Airport, reflecting the growing importance of regional airports in supporting direct access to nearby resort destinations and enhancing overall connectivity.

Resorts across the Maldives continue to play a central role in sustaining this growth by offering a wide range of experiences tailored to different traveller segments, from ultra-luxury private island retreats and family-friendly resorts to wellness-focused hideaways and adventure-oriented properties. Many resorts are also strengthening their sustainability practices, cultural experiences, and personalized services, further enhancing the destination’s reputation as a premium yet responsible tourism hub.

Tourism growth in recent years has been substantial, with the Maldives recording a record 2.2 million tourist arrivals last year. The strong performance at the start of this year positions the country well to build on that achievement and maintain its status as one of the world’s most sought-after island destinations, supported by a resilient tourism sector, continuous product development, and unwavering global demand for the Maldives’ unique resort experience.
