The Ministry of Tourism and Environment has announced a call for tenders for the development and operation of a new tourist hotel in Nilandhoo, Faafu Atoll, presenting an important opportunity for investors and hospitality developers to participate in the continued expansion of the Maldives’ tourism sector. The project involves the allocation of a 13,300-square-foot plot of land, designated for the establishment of a tourist hotel with a minimum capacity of 50 beds, designed to serve both international and domestic visitors seeking high-quality accommodation and authentic island experiences.
Under the proposed arrangement, the land will be leased to the successful bidder for a period of 50 years, offering long-term operational stability and the potential for sustainable return on investment. Developers will be required to commence construction within 24 months of signing the lease agreement, ensuring timely delivery of the project and alignment with national development priorities. The planned resort is expected to complement the natural beauty and cultural character of Nilandhoo, while meeting modern hospitality standards and contributing to the diversification of accommodation options within Faafu Atoll.
To facilitate transparency and provide clarity on technical, financial, and operational requirements, the Ministry will host a virtual information session on 24 February. Participation in this session requires prior registration, with interested parties requested to submit their name, email address, and contact number to the Ministry’s official email before 12:00 pm on 23 February. Bid documents will be available for collection from the Ministry of Tourism reception during office hours, from 2 February through 31 March, enabling prospective bidders to prepare comprehensive proposals.
Proposals must be submitted by 12:00 pm on 1 April, in accordance with the tender guidelines. For further clarification, inquiries may be directed to the Ministry’s planning division via email before 1:00 pm on 29 March. The development forms part of the Maldives’ wider strategy to broaden tourism infrastructure across a greater number of islands, creating new investment opportunities, stimulating local economies, and generating employment in communities beyond the country’s traditional tourism centers.
