Sun Siyam has marked an important achievement in its ongoing commitment to nurturing local talent and strengthening youth employability with the graduation of the first cohort of the Sun Siyam Apprenticeship Programme at Siyam World Maldives. The ceremony celebrated eight apprentices who successfully completed the programme, representing a wide cross section of operational disciplines within the resort, including Culinary, Engineering, Finance, Information Technology, and Dive and Recreation. This diverse representation highlights the breadth of career pathways available within the hospitality industry and reflects Sun Siyam’s holistic approach to workforce development.
The event was attended by representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, including two ministry officials, demonstrating the value of strong public and private sector collaboration in building sustainable employment opportunities for Maldivian youth. Keynote addresses were delivered by State Minister Fathimath Mohamed and Siyam World Resort Manager Ausy Waseem, both of whom emphasised the importance of practical learning, mentorship, and long term career growth in shaping a skilled and resilient national workforce.
Launched in July 2025 in collaboration with the Ministry of Higher Education through the SAILS Project, a World Bank funded initiative, the Sun Siyam Apprenticeship Programme is designed to strengthen skills development and improve youth employability across the Maldives. The programme commenced at Siyam World Maldives on 1 July 2025 as a structured six month apprenticeship that combines hands on training, guided mentorship, and real world operational exposure within a dynamic resort environment.
Throughout the programme, apprentices gained valuable on the job experience across key departments, working alongside experienced professionals and receiving guidance based on structured learning objectives aligned with national certification standards and Sun Siyam Resorts’ service philosophy. This approach ensures that participants develop both technical competencies and the professional mindset required to succeed in an international hospitality setting.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Resort Manager Ausy Waseem stated that the programme extends beyond technical training, focusing on building confidence, self belief, and ambition among young Maldivians. He noted that Sun Siyam is proud to support participants as they grow professionally and personally, and to contribute to shaping the future of Maldivian tourism through empowered and capable local talent.
The graduation further reinforces Sun Siyam’s long term commitment to people development and purposeful growth. While the Apprenticeship Programme operates as a dedicated initiative, it reflects the same values that guide the Group’s broader approach to talent, opportunity, and responsibility. These values are also embodied in the Sun Siyam Care framework, which centres on sustainability, environmental stewardship, and ethical tourism, underscoring the Group’s integrated commitment to positive social and economic impact.
As the programme continues to evolve, Sun Siyam Resorts remains focused on creating meaningful opportunities, cultivating skills, and sharing knowledge across its properties. By investing in education and structured career pathways, the Group aims to ensure that the next generation of hospitality professionals are not only inspired to pursue careers in tourism, but are fully equipped to thrive and contribute to the continued success of the Maldives as a world leading destination.
