The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened applications for Maldivian youth to participate in the Global Money Week Quiz Competition, an initiative aimed at strengthening financial literacy through an engaging and competitive learning experience. The league-style competition has been developed to encourage young participants to build a solid understanding of essential financial concepts while applying this knowledge to real-life situations, supporting the broader objective of nurturing financially responsible and informed future generations.
Designed around an interactive online format, the competition will be conducted across six rounds hosted on a dedicated quiz platform. Participants will engage in multiple-choice and scenario-based questions that assess both theoretical understanding and practical decision-making skills. Only the top five highest-scoring teams from the initial rounds will advance to the final round, where they will compete for positions on the leaderboard and overall ranking.
The quiz content will focus on three core thematic areas that reflect today’s financial landscape and challenges. These include smart money choices such as earning, spending, and saving; digital finance and financial scams, addressing the growing importance of online financial safety; and money basics, covering concepts such as value, interest, and inflation. Together, these themes aim to equip young people with comprehensive and relevant financial knowledge that can guide them throughout their personal and professional lives.
The competition is open to Maldivian youth aged between 16 and 18 years and is accessible to the public. Participants must form teams of three to five members, including a designated team leader. Each team is required to register with complete details of all members, along with a unique team name, ensuring a structured and well-organized participation process.
To recognize outstanding performance, MMA has announced cash rewards for the top three teams, with MVR10,000 awarded to the first-place winners, MVR7,000 to the second-place team, and MVR5,000 to the third-place team. These incentives are intended to further motivate youth participation and excellence in financial learning.
Interested teams must submit a completed application form as part of the registration process. All applications must be received by 11:59 pm Maldivian time (GMT+5) on 26 February 2026. Through this initiative, MMA continues to demonstrate its commitment to empowering Maldivian youth with the financial knowledge and skills necessary to navigate an increasingly complex economic environment and contribute positively to the nation’s sustainable development.
