Maldivian Seaplane has announced a new air route to Thoddoo, strengthening domestic connectivity to one of the Maldives’ most visited local islands, with the inaugural flight scheduled for 12 February 2026. The company said the service is being introduced in response to growing travel demand and in line with wider government efforts to improve inter-island transport links and support regional development. With faster and more convenient access, the route is expected to enhance mobility for communities while encouraging increased visitor movement to Thoddoo, supporting the island’s evolving local tourism economy.

According to Maldivian, flights on the Thoddoo route will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays, providing a consistent schedule that can support both planned leisure travel and short-stay itineraries. To celebrate the launch, Maldivian Seaplane is offering a promotional one-way fare of MVR 799 for local passengers, a step aimed at improving affordability and expanding access to air travel across the country. The new schedule is also expected to provide added convenience for domestic travellers and industry stakeholders, including guesthouse operators and service providers who rely on smoother transport connections to maintain service quality and manage peak travel periods.

Thoddoo has continued to build momentum as a local island destination, supported by a steadily expanding guesthouse sector and a broader range of tourism offerings that appeal to both regional and long-haul markets. The introduction of scheduled seaplane services is expected to further strengthen this growth by improving access for visitors, enabling more flexible travel planning, and supporting higher visitor volumes during key periods. Maldivian said the enhanced connectivity is anticipated to benefit local livelihoods by supporting guesthouse operators, small businesses, and tourism-linked services, helping to generate broader economic activity while reinforcing Thoddoo’s position as a strong contributor to community-based tourism in the Maldives.
