Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer says the Government’s ongoing economic reforms are generating rising confidence among both local and international investors, including major global companies exploring opportunities in the Maldives. He made the remarks during the inauguration ceremony marking the start of practical works for the land reclamation project linked to the development of Dhidhdhoo Airport, highlighting that the reform agenda is being carried out as part of broader national development efforts, with positive outcomes already becoming visible across key sectors.

Speaking at the ceremony, Zameer said investor interest in projects now being rolled out reflects a stronger, more credible development environment shaped by policy and planning improvements. He noted that internationally recognised companies have expressed interest in undertaking land reclamation projects in the Maldives, signalling growing confidence in the country’s infrastructure pipeline and long-term growth prospects. He further emphasised that the Government will ensure that companies contracted for development projects have the required capacity and technical expertise to deliver results to standard, underlining a clear focus on execution quality, risk management, and value for public investment.

The Minister also addressed public concerns and dismissed rumours claiming that the Government intends to hand over the management of the Malé Commercial Port to a foreign company. He assured that President Dr Mohamed Muizzu would not take any steps unless they benefit the Maldivian people, stressing that all major decisions are taken in the public interest and aligned with national priorities. The clarification comes as the Maldives continues to position itself as a reliable destination for investment while maintaining strategic oversight of critical national assets.

Zameer said the current administration is placing strong emphasis on sustainable planning, explaining that some previous projects in the Maldives lacked sufficient planning and long-term sustainability considerations. He stated that the administration under President Muizzu is pursuing a more structured and people-focused approach one that strengthens confidence for investors while ensuring development supports communities, improves connectivity, and creates durable economic benefits. With airport development and associated reclamation works advancing in the north, the project is expected to contribute to broader regional growth by supporting mobility, improving access, and enabling new investment opportunities across tourism, services, and local enterprise further reinforcing the Maldives’ appeal to global partners seeking well-planned, high-potential destinations.
