The national carrier, Maldivian, has announced a series of special flights dedicated to Umrah pilgrims, strengthening its role in serving the religious travel needs of Maldivians. The airline, which commenced its Umrah operations in July this year using its wide-body aircraft, is now introducing direct connections between Malé and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, timed to coincide with the upcoming school holidays to offer added convenience for pilgrims and their families.
Under the new schedule, Maldivian will operate three direct flights from Malé to Jeddah on the 27th and 28th of December, providing flexible departure options for groups and individuals planning their pilgrimage. Return flights from Jeddah to Malé are scheduled for the 10th, 11th, and 12th of January next year, allowing pilgrims ample time to complete their religious obligations before returning home ahead of the new academic and working year. According to Maldivian, the return fare is set at USD 750, inclusive of a generous 45-kilogram baggage allowance, which is expected to be particularly beneficial for pilgrims travelling with religious items, personal belongings, and gifts.
These dedicated Umrah flights form part of Maldivian’s broader effort to expand its international religious travel services and provide direct, reliable, and comfortable connectivity during peak travel periods. By aligning operations with school holidays, the airline is targeting families and community groups who prefer to travel together for Umrah, reducing the need for lengthy transits or complex multi-leg journeys.
