Maldivian is set to strengthen regional air connectivity between the Maldives and South India with the introduction of a fifth weekly flight to both Trivandrum and Cochin from Malé, starting 19 December 2025. The increased frequency is expected to ease travel for guests heading to Maldivian resorts and guesthouses, as well as Maldivians travelling for medical, business, and leisure purposes. For the resort sector in particular, the added flights translate into more consistent access for Indian travellers, better alignment with international arrival and departure patterns, and greater flexibility for short-stay holiday packages.
According to the national airline, the updated schedule will give travellers more choice when planning trips around medical appointments, corporate engagements, or quick getaways. For Maldivian resorts that rely on regional markets to maintain healthy year-round occupancy, the extra services to Trivandrum and Cochin help smooth out weekend and mid-week arrivals, making it easier for resort operators and local travel agencies to design attractive three- to five-night packages tailored to Indian tourists. With additional seats available each week, particularly during peak school holidays and festive seasons, the tourism industry can expect improved passenger flows and reduced pressure on limited seat inventory.
All flights on the Malé–Trivandrum and Malé–Cochin routes will be operated using the Airbus A320, configured with 152 seats, including 14 in Premium Economy and 138 in Economy. With a flight time of just over an hour, the routes offer a convenient gateway for Indian travellers connecting seamlessly to resort transfers by speedboat or seaplane from Malé. Return fares for Maldivian nationals start at USD 176 for Cochin and USD 232 for Trivandrum, supporting affordability for those travelling frequently for medical and personal reasons, while also helping resort staff and industry professionals commute more efficiently when required.
Maldivian will continue to operate these routes as a full-service carrier, offering a product mix designed to balance comfort with value. Economy passengers receive a 20kg baggage allowance and complimentary hot meals, an important consideration for families and long-stay guests bringing personal items and supplies. Premium Economy passengers enjoy additional benefits such as priority check-in, an increased baggage allowance of up to 30kg, free date changes, and enhanced cabin comfort. These features are particularly attractive for resort-bound travellers looking to combine a short flight with a comfortable onboard experience before beginning their holiday at their chosen island property.
