London’s iconic black taxis are getting a vibrant makeover this season, thanks to a bold new initiative by Visit Maldives Corporation (VMC) designed to captivate the UK travel market. In the lead-up to World Travel Market (WTM) London 2025, one of the largest and most influential travel trade events globally VMC has rolled out an extensive outdoor advertising campaign that brings the scenic beauty of the Maldives directly to the streets of central London.

The campaign spans two months and features 100 taxis adorned with vivid imagery of the Maldives’ signature turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, and lush island backdrops. These visuals are not only striking but strategically positioned to reach high-value travellers, tourism industry decision-makers, and media professionals expected to attend WTM London 2025. This initiative reinforces the Maldives’ reputation as a luxury destination renowned for its natural beauty, exclusive resorts, and authentic experiences.

To maximise reach and impact, the campaign is being executed in partnership with five prominent tourism brands in the Maldives: Kandima Maldives, Universal Resorts, Kaimoo Resorts and Hotels, Brennia Kottefaru, and Riu Atoll and Riu Palace Maldivas. Each partner is represented through a fleet of 20 taxis, resulting in a total of 200 branded superside panels travelling along London’s busiest roads and tourism hubs during the critical pre-WTM period.

The campaign aims to distinguish the Maldives in one of its top-performing markets, UK being historically one of the top three source markets for the Maldives. According to Maldives Ministry of Tourism statistics, over 180,000 British tourists visited the Maldives in 2024 alone, demonstrating the destination’s continued popularity among UK travellers seeking high-end tropical escapes.

By transforming the everyday London commute into a moving canvas of island paradise, the campaign appeals to a strong emotional desire for escapism, especially during the UK’s autumn and early winter season. The contrasting imagery serves as a powerful visual invitation to trade in the grey skies of the city for the warm glow of the Indian Ocean.

“This campaign brings the spirit of the Maldives to one of our key markets at a time when global attention is focused on London,” stated Ibrahim Shiuree, CEO and Managing Director of Visit Maldives Corporation. “It reflects our strategy to maintain strong destination visibility while inspiring travellers to rediscover the Maldives as the ultimate haven of warmth, luxury, and connection.”

The initiative forms part of VMC’s broader destination marketing efforts tied to its participation at WTM London 2025, where the Maldives will have a major presence. Through this taxi campaign, the Maldives not only reinforces its destination brand in a high-profile international market but also positions itself for increased engagement, trade partnerships, and tourism arrivals in the year ahead.

With the global travel sector ramping up for a strong 2025, this vibrant campaign reflects Maldives’ commitment to staying top of mind for discerning travellers and industry stakeholders alike. As these 100 taxis roam the heart of London, they carry with them a compelling message: the Maldives is ready to welcome the world, one unforgettable journey at a time.
