Bank of Maldives (BML), the nation’s leading financial institution, has launched its latest premium banking product the BML Visa Platinum debit card designed to elevate the international banking experience for both Maldivian residents and foreign visitors. The launch ceremony, held at Barcelo’s Nasandhuraa, also marked the commencement of BML’s new corporate campaign, Dhiveheenge Bank – Mulhi Raajje ah, which highlights the bank’s vision of strengthening its nationwide service footprint.

The new Visa Platinum card introduces substantially higher transaction limits and exclusive privileges that cater especially to the needs of frequent travelers, expatriates, business executives, and premium clients. With this card, customers holding dollar accounts can now withdraw up to USD 3,200 per day from BML ATMs within the Maldives, double the existing standard limit. Internationally, the card supports a daily transaction and purchase limit of up to USD 5,000, offering seamless banking access while abroad.

In addition to these expanded withdrawal and spending limits, the card offers a range of high-end services. Cardholders gain access to Visa’s global network of services, including a 24-hour dedicated Visa Platinum concierge service. This value-added offering is particularly attractive to international tourists visiting the Maldives and locals who travel frequently, as it simplifies access to hotel reservations, restaurant bookings, and travel assistance.

Speaking at the launch, Minister of Economic Development and Trade Mohamed Saeed emphasized the importance of developing international-standard financial products to support economic growth and tourism. The card was officially unveiled by the Minister, reinforcing the government’s commitment to digital transformation and enhancing financial accessibility across borders.

BML’s CEO and Managing Director, Mohamed Shareef, highlighted the strategic role of the Visa Platinum debit card in improving customer convenience and enabling smoother international transactions. “Our aim is to elevate the international banking services available to our customers. With this card, we are offering easier access to foreign currency accounts and introducing a premium banking experience that matches global standards,” said Shareef.

The Visa Platinum debit card is now available for immediate application through BML’s internet banking portal and mobile banking app, allowing both local customers and long-term foreign residents to conveniently request the card and benefit from its services.

This latest launch not only reinforces BML’s position as a key player in the Maldives’ financial sector but also adds value to the country’s appeal as a tourist-friendly destination equipped with modern banking conveniences. As the Maldives continues to welcome a growing number of international visitors annually, over 1.6 million tourists in 2023, the introduction of flexible, globally accepted banking solutions such as the Visa Platinum debit card reflects a timely and customer-centric response to evolving market demands.
