Travel between the Maldives and Azerbaijan is about to become much easier following the signing of a new agreement that allows citizens of both countries to enjoy visa-free entry for stays of up to 90 days. The agreement was formalized in New York, where the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives, Dr. Abdulla Khaleel, met with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Jayhun Bayramov, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. This milestone follows an earlier agreement signed last year, which exempted Maldivian diplomatic and official passport holders from visa requirements for stays of the same duration.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the newly signed visa waiver strengthens the foundation already set by previous arrangements and expands it to ordinary passport holders, making travel more accessible for tourists and business visitors alike. For Maldivians, this opens the door to explore Azerbaijan’s historical cities, vibrant culture, and rapidly developing tourism sector without additional travel formalities.
