President Dr Mohamed Muizzu held official talks with His Excellency Xi Jinping, President of the People’s Republic of China, at the Tianjin Yingbin Hotel this morning, reaffirming the enduring friendship and expanding partnership between the Maldives and China.

President Xi Jinping warmly welcomed President Muizzu and expressed appreciation for his visit, noting that the presence of the Maldivian leader in China reflects the trust and strong ties nurtured over decades of diplomatic relations. President Muizzu, making his second official visit to China, thanked President Xi for the invitation and generous hospitality, and reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to further advancing bilateral cooperation.

During the meeting, both leaders engaged in substantive discussions on areas of mutual interest. Talks focused on economic development, trade, investment opportunities, and expanding cooperation in security. Emphasis was also placed on fostering people-to-people connections, an area viewed as central to sustaining long-term relations between the two nations.

President Xi Jinping highlighted China’s readiness to provide full support to the Maldives in achieving its national development priorities, especially under the framework of the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership (2024–2028). He underscored the importance of result-oriented cooperation that delivers tangible benefits to both countries.

For his part, President Muizzu reaffirmed the Maldives’ appreciation for China’s continued support and reiterated his government’s dedication to further strengthening the strategic partnership. Both leaders expressed a shared vision of elevating cooperation across multiple sectors to advance mutual prosperity and stability.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment by both Presidents to deepen the Maldives-China partnership, with a clear focus on cooperation that fosters economic growth, enhances connectivity, and strengthens cultural ties.

In addition to the talks with President Xi, President Muizzu extended congratulations to Malaysia on the occasion of its Independence Day. In a message shared publicly, he conveyed best wishes to His Majesty King Sultan Ibrahim, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, the Government, and the people of Malaysia. The message underlined the Maldives’ appreciation of Malaysia as a valued partner and reflected the strong and enduring bonds between the two nations. President Muizzu’s series of diplomatic engagements in China, alongside his outreach to Malaysia, reflect the Maldives’ active commitment to strengthening international partnerships.
