President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr Mohamed Muizzu, reaffirmed the depth and resilience of the Maldives–India partnership during a state banquet held in honour of Indian Prime Minister His Excellency Shri Narendra Modi, who is currently undertaking an official state visit to the Maldives.

The event took place against the backdrop of a historic occasion, the 60th anniversary of the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between the Maldives and India. In his address, President Muizzu described the bilateral relationship as one built on centuries of shared history, stating that the Indian Ocean has long served as a witness to the enduring bonds between the two nations. He reflected on the Maldives and India not merely as diplomatic partners, but as neighbours and trading partners with ties that extend beyond statecraft and into culture, community, and lived experience.

President Muizzu noted that the relationship between the Maldives and India is defined by mutual trust, deep-rooted connections, and sustained cooperation, a partnership that predates official agreements and continues to evolve in response to modern regional needs. “This partnership is not just written in treaties but woven into the shared experience of our people,” the President remarked.

He went on to express sincere appreciation for India’s continued support, describing it as a vital pillar in the Maldives’ national development journey. From infrastructure and housing to health, education, and emergency response, India’s contributions have consistently supported the country’s efforts to improve quality of life and economic opportunity. The President acknowledged that India has not only been a reliable friend in times of need but also a proactive partner in shaping the Maldives’ path forward.

Addressing the guests, President Muizzu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building an inclusive and resilient economy, particularly by focusing on youth empowerment, innovation, and regional stability. He underscored that India’s partnership remains key in achieving these national priorities, especially in areas of skill development, sustainable infrastructure, and maritime security.

Looking ahead, the President expressed his hope that the Maldives–India relationship will continue to flourish and adapt, guided by mutual respect and common aspirations for peace, prosperity, and sustainable growth. “Our vision is clear: a future in which the Maldives and India grow together, protect this region together, and prosper together,” he stated.

In response, Prime Minister Modi echoed the President’s sentiments, noting the rich cultural and historical ties that continue to unite the peoples of both nations. He emphasized the importance of maintaining strong people-to-people connections and expanding cooperation in areas such as tourism, heritage preservation, and youth engagement.

Prime Minister Modi’s visit to the Maldives, his first since beginning his third consecutive term, has included high-level discussions, formal project inaugurations, and the signing of multiple development agreements. The state banquet, attended by senior officials from both governments and distinguished guests, served as a ceremonial reaffirmation of the enduring partnership between the two Indian Ocean neighbours.

For international visitors, the strengthened Maldives–India partnership represents more than diplomacy; it translates to enhanced infrastructure, sustainable development, and regional stability, factors that continue
