A central feature of the visit was the Maldives–UK Business Forum held in London, where President Dr Muizzu delivered a keynote address to leading British business executives and policymakers. During the forum, he presented major investment opportunities across five strategic sectors: the creative economy, digital transformation, renewable energy, fisheries and ocean innovation, and tourism infrastructure. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ position as a dynamic, reform-driven economy open to international partnerships, supported by the recent enactment of a new Foreign Investment Act and the reactivation of Special Economic Zones for large-scale projects.

At the same forum, the President officially launched the “From Maldives” fisheries promotion brand, a national initiative aimed at boosting the visibility of Maldivian seafood in global markets. The brand reflects the Maldives’ longstanding commitment to sustainable, responsible fishing practices and highlights the unique value of its pole-and-line caught tuna a key export product.

President Dr Muizzu also held bilateral discussions with The Rt Hon David Lammy MP, UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, to explore enhanced cooperation in areas such as climate adaptation, education, renewable energy, and fisheries development. The President emphasized the Maldives’ interest in fostering deeper trade links and investment flows between the two nations.

In addition, President Muizzu engaged with members of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) on the Maldives at the House of Lords. He reaffirmed the Maldives’ commitment to strengthening democratic governance, judicial reform, and multilateral cooperation. British parliamentarians echoed their support for the Maldives’ development goals and the importance of maintaining strong people-to-people ties.

Another key meeting took place with Commonwealth Secretary-General the Hon. Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, where the President shared the Maldives’ national vision to achieve developed country status by 2040. Discussions covered areas of shared interest including governance, climate leadership, sustainable tourism, and inclusive development. The Secretary-General reiterated the Commonwealth’s support for the Maldives and its active role in advocating for Small Island Developing States (SIDS).

President Dr Muizzu’s UK visit demonstrated the Maldives’ growing international engagement and commitment to global partnerships that support national development priorities. From promoting climate resilience and innovation to expanding international trade and investment, the President’s engagements in London laid the foundation for deeper collaboration with one of the country’s most trusted partners.

The United Kingdom remains a top tourism source market for the Maldives, with over 180,000 British visitors recorded in the past year alone, underscoring the value of maintaining strong bilateral ties in both economic and cultural spheres. The President’s visit not only strengthened diplomatic relations but also enhanced the Maldives’ profile as a destination of opportunity, sustainability, and strategic importance.
