The Maldives Marketing and Public Relations Corporation (MMPRC), operating under the brand Visit Maldives, has officially launched the Visit Maldives Local Ambassadorship Program, a creative initiative aimed at empowering local artists and amplifying the country’s cultural narrative across international markets. This new platform is set to bridge tourism promotion with the authentic voices of Maldivian creatives, enhancing the country’s global image as not only a tropical getaway but also a destination rich in cultural depth and artistic expression.

The program invites artists from diverse creative fields including music, visual arts, photography, filmmaking, literature, performance, and digital media to partner with Visit Maldives in narrating the Maldivian story to the world. By leveraging homegrown talent, the initiative seeks to foster deeper connections between the local community and the tourism sector while enriching international marketing efforts with genuine, culturally rooted content.

The first artists to be appointed under this program are the popular Maldivian music duo ‘2ofUs’, who have already established themselves as cultural icons with a growing international presence. As Local Ambassadors, 2ofUs will incorporate destination branding into their upcoming performances in India, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and France, helping introduce global audiences to the charm, traditions, and welcoming spirit of the Maldives. Additionally, the duo has been invited to audition for Britain’s Got Talent Season 19 in September, offering a valuable opportunity to spotlight the Maldives on one of the world’s most watched entertainment platforms.

The Local Ambassadorship Program is a key component of MMPRC’s strategic approach to destination marketing, which emphasizes sustainable tourism, community inclusion, and cultural promotion. As part of its broader 2025 marketing vision, MMPRC has focused on expanding the Maldives’ tourism identity beyond its natural beauty to include local heritage, arts, and storytelling. This aligns with its recent campaigns targeting culturally inclined tourists, including Maldivian Stories, Thasbeehuge Dhathuru (traditional sailboat experiences), and Maldivian Culinary Trails, each highlighting a different facet of the nation’s cultural ecosystem.

Through this program, MMPRC aims to empower locals to take ownership of the country’s international image, creating a more inclusive tourism economy. It also reflects the corporation’s continuous efforts to diversify marketing efforts and reach new demographics, especially travelers who value immersive, cultural experiences in addition to natural attractions.

Artists interested in becoming cultural ambassadors are encouraged to apply by submitting their proposals to [email protected]. The selection process seeks individuals with a strong artistic vision, cultural awareness, and a genuine passion for representing the Maldives in a positive and creative light.

With initiatives like the Local Ambassadorship Program, MMPRC continues to reinforce the Maldives’ status as a leading travel destination not just for its turquoise waters and white-sand beaches, but as a country with a vibrant soul and creative spirit waiting to be explored by the world.
