The meeting, which took place on 30th May 2025, highlighted shared priorities between the two nations, particularly in the areas of climate action, sustainable development, and tourism collaboration.

They agreed on the urgent need for stronger bilateral cooperation in climate adaptation efforts, underlining the importance of joint resilience strategies to respond to the environmental challenges affecting both countries.

In addition to environmental concerns, the leaders placed mutual emphasis on strengthening agricultural cooperation, identifying opportunities to share expertise and enhance food security through sustainable agricultural practices.

Tourism was another key focus of the meeting. Tajikistan expressed its interest in learning from the Maldives’ globally recognised tourism model known for its luxury resorts, sustainability practices, and community-based development. The Prime Minister acknowledged the Maldives’ leadership in global tourism and expressed a willingness to explore knowledge-sharing initiatives that could help boost Tajikistan’s emerging tourism sector.

The Vice President’s visit to Tajikistan forms part of his participation in the international glacier preservation conference, which gathered heads of state, ministers, and climate experts to address the retreat of glaciers and its global impact an issue closely tied to rising sea levels affecting low-lying nations like the Maldives.

Concluding the meeting, both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening diplomatic and economic relations, agreeing to pursue areas of cooperation that deliver shared benefits, from climate resilience to economic development.
