President of the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed have departed for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to perform the sacred Hajj pilgrimage for the year 1446H. Their journey marks a deeply spiritual undertaking, symbolizing the importance the administration places on Islamic values and devotion at the highest level of leadership.

The President and First Lady are accompanied by a distinguished delegation of senior government officials, including Minister of Finance and Planning Moosa Zameer; Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed; Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Abdulla Khaleel and his spouse; Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation Abdulla Rafiu and his spouse; Grand Imam of the Islamic Centre, Sheikh Mohamed Latheef and his spouse; as well as Chief of Protocol Mohamed Shahudy.

This official visit has been graciously facilitated by the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, who are hosting the Maldivian delegation throughout their stay. The generous hospitality extended by the Saudi authorities reflects the close and enduring relationship between the two nations and highlights Saudi Arabia’s ongoing commitment to serving the Muslim Ummah.

The presence of the President and First Lady during this year’s pilgrimage underscores the Maldives’ recognition of the Hajj as not only a core pillar of Islam, but also a national priority in the country’s religious and diplomatic engagements. The inclusion of top-level ministers and religious leaders in the delegation further reflects the administration’s intention to strengthen bilateral ties with Saudi Arabia while engaging in spiritual reflection alongside fellow citizens.

President Dr. Muizzu has continuously emphasized the importance of enhancing the Hajj experience for Maldivian pilgrims. Through strengthened cooperation with Saudi Arabia, particularly under initiatives such as the Makkah Route Initiative the Maldives has made considerable advancements in service delivery, easing the travel and immigration process for pilgrims.

The Maldivian public has expressed appreciation for the President’s decision to personally participate in this year’s pilgrimage, viewing it as a demonstration of humility, faith, and solidarity with the thousands of Maldivians also making the sacred journey.

As the President and First Lady begin their pilgrimage, the nation joins them in prayers for a safe journey, a spiritually rewarding experience, and a Mabrur Hajj.
