T-Rex Basketball Club will represent the Maldives in the upcoming South Asian Basketball Association (SABA) Club Championship, a prestigious regional tournament scheduled to take place from April 2 to April 7, 2025, in New Delhi, India. The event will be hosted at the renowned Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium, bringing together national league champions from across South Asia to compete on one of the region’s biggest basketball stages.
T-Rex BC earned the honor of representing the Maldives after a remarkable performance in last year’s national basketball league, where they clinched the championship title by defeating the reigning three-time champions, Kings BC. Their success did not end there; T-Rex continued their winning streak into this year by securing the Maldives Basketball Association (MBA) Championship, reaffirming their position as the leading force in Maldivian basketball.
The SABA Club Championship will see T-Rex BC face off against top-tier teams from neighboring countries, including Tamil Nadu (India), Colombo BC (Sri Lanka), Times BC (Nepal), Thimphu Magics (Bhutan), and ISB Panthers (Pakistan). This regional tournament serves as a platform to showcase elite club-level basketball talent from the South Asian region, promoting both sportsmanship and cross-cultural athletic exchange.
T-Rex will open their campaign on Wednesday with a match against Bhutan’s Thimphu Magics. They will return to the court on Thursday to challenge Colombo BC, followed by a Friday showdown with Nepal’s Times BC. On Sunday evening, they will face the Indian champions, Tamil Nadu, in what promises to be a high-stakes encounter. The final match of their campaign will see them take on Pakistan’s ISB Panthers, wrapping up a week of intense competition.
Participation in this championship not only highlights the growing talent pool within the Maldives’ basketball scene but also reflects the increasing commitment to developing the sport across the nation. As T-Rex BC steps onto the court in New Delhi, they carry with them the hopes and support of basketball fans throughout the Maldives, looking to make their mark on the regional stage.
