During the event, Vice President Hussain Mohamed Latheef joined fellow Heads of Government and delegation representatives for the official CHOGM 2026 group photograph, reflecting the Maldives’ continued engagement with the Commonwealth and its commitment to strengthening relations with member states.
CHOGM is convened every two years and serves as the Commonwealth’s principal forum for leaders to exchange views on international developments, development priorities and matters of common interest. It provides an important platform for countries of different sizes and regions to strengthen cooperation, explore new opportunities and develop coordinated approaches to shared challenges.
The 2026 meeting is being held in Antigua and Barbuda from 1 to 4 November under the theme, “Accelerating Partnerships and Investment for a Prosperous Commonwealth.” The theme places particular emphasis on building stronger partnerships, expanding investment opportunities and promoting inclusive and sustainable prosperity across Commonwealth countries.
The Maldives’ participation in CHOGM 2026 reflects the Government’s continued efforts to strengthen international engagement, expand diplomatic and development partnerships, and ensure that the interests and perspectives of small island states remain represented in major multilateral forums. The gathering also provides opportunities for the Maldivian delegation to deepen relations with Commonwealth partners and contribute to discussions on economic development, investment, resilience and shared prosperity.
