Bank of Maldives (BML) has supported the Maldivian Nurses Association (MNA) in delivering a mental health rehabilitation programme in Hulhumalé Phase II, helping more than 100 people through training, healthy living skills and community awareness activities. Funded through the BML Bank Fund, the initiative provided assistance to individuals requiring mental health support and their families.
Titled “Zaithoon,” the programme focused on equipping participants with essential life skills and strategies for coping with difficult circumstances. It also aimed to support their reintegration into society, address negative perceptions surrounding mental illness and encourage greater public understanding.
MNA conducted training sessions and activities designed to help participants develop skills relevant to everyday living. By including families, the programme recognised the importance of support networks and shared understanding when responding to mental health needs.
Community awareness activities formed another important part of the initiative. These sessions sought to challenge stigma and promote a more supportive environment for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, complementing the programme’s practical assistance.
The association’s work reached more than 100 people in Hulhumalé, bringing together individual support, family engagement and public awareness. This approach addressed both participants’ daily needs and the social attitudes that can affect their inclusion in community life.
BML’s contribution reflects the Bank Fund’s continuing support for social projects across the Maldives. Through partnerships with organisations working directly with communities, the fund helps deliver initiatives intended to provide lasting benefits and operate sustainably.
The Zaithoon programme demonstrates how cooperation between financial institutions and community organisations can support locally delivered social services. For participants and their families, the initiative offered opportunities to build practical skills, strengthen connections and contribute to a more understanding community.
