President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has called for accelerated implementation of major development projects across the Maldives, emphasising timely completion, high standards and careful cost management. His directives came during a special meeting at the President’s Office to review project progress and identify solutions to delays affecting initiatives with a direct impact on the public.
The meeting brought together Cabinet members and senior officials from relevant government institutions and companies. Held in line with the Government’s commitments to the people, the discussions focused on practical steps to advance ongoing work and complete projects within their established timelines.
Ministers reviewed the implementation status of major development projects currently under way or planned. The meeting provided an opportunity to examine progress, identify areas requiring attention and discuss the actions needed to move individual projects forward.
Financial, technical and administrative obstacles received particular attention. Participants discussed swift and sustainable solutions to these challenges, recognising that effective delivery requires coordinated action across the institutions responsible for funding, planning and implementation.
Strengthening cooperation between ministries and government companies was another central priority. The discussions emphasised the need to align their efforts towards a common objective, helping ensure that decisions and implementation activities support the timely completion of development commitments.
Speaking at the meeting, President Muizzu highlighted the importance of delivering projects promised to the public to the highest possible standard while keeping costs low and ensuring the best possible quality. His remarks placed efficient use of resources alongside construction and service standards as key considerations in project delivery.
The meeting also agreed to strengthen the system for monitoring the progress of each project. Individual projects will receive specific priority and closer implementation tracking, providing a more focused basis for identifying delays and addressing matters that require intervention.
Closer monitoring can support the wider effort to maintain delivery schedules by giving responsible institutions a clearer view of progress and outstanding tasks. Combined with stronger coordination, this approach is intended to help translate decisions into action at project level.
The President instructed the Cabinet to accelerate a number of stalled projects, alongside solutions introduced to address difficulties arising from ongoing challenges in the external environment. He called for greater determination and closer cooperation to ensure that projects are completed within their designated timeframes.
The meeting reaffirmed the Government’s focus on fulfilling its development commitments through practical problem-solving, stronger oversight and coordinated implementation. By linking faster delivery with quality and cost discipline, the President’s directives set clear priorities for advancing projects that matter to communities across the Maldives.
