The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has opened the Money Matters Art Competition as part of MMA FinLit Fest 2026, inviting students across the country to explore money and finance through creativity. The initiative connects financial awareness with visual expression, encouraging young people to consider how financial decisions can shape their lives and future aspirations.
The competition is open to students in Grades 5 to 9, with separate participation groups for Grades 5–7 and Grades 8–9. Students may enter artwork in either the Digital Art or Non-Digital Art category, providing opportunities to express their ideas through different creative techniques.
Participants are encouraged to explore themes including smart money choices, saving and financial goals, inclusive finance, innovation and the future of money, and responsible and sustainable finance. These subjects offer students a broad foundation for interpreting everyday financial decisions alongside the changes influencing how people access and use money.
By bringing these themes into an art competition, MMA gives students an engaging way to reflect on financial wellbeing. Creating an artwork can encourage participants to think about the importance of saving, planning for future goals and making considered choices, then communicate those ideas in ways that other young people can understand.
The inclusion of innovation and the future of money also invites students to imagine how financial services might evolve. Meanwhile, themes such as inclusive and sustainable finance encourage reflection on access, responsibility and the wider impact of financial decisions on communities.
Winners will receive cash prizes of up to MVR 3,000, together with certificates recognising their achievements. Selected artworks may also be displayed at MMA events and exhibitions or featured in its publications, digital campaigns and awareness materials, giving students an opportunity to contribute to financial education beyond the competition.
The submission deadline is 1 November 2026 at 23:59 Maldives Time. Digital artworks can be submitted by email to [email protected], while physical entries can be delivered or sent to the Maldives Monetary Authority in Malé.
Students are encouraged to consult MMA’s Money Matters Art Competition Participant Guidebook before preparing their entries. The guidebook provides detailed information on the themes, eligibility, submission requirements and evaluation criteria, helping participants ensure their work meets the competition’s conditions.
Through the competition, MMA FinLit Fest 2026 offers young people a platform to combine artistic talent with financial learning. The initiative places students’ perspectives at the centre of the conversation, encouraging them to explore how thoughtful money choices can support their goals and contribute to a more financially aware future.
