Maldivian consumers will be able to purchase products from some of India’s largest online retailers and pay directly in Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) through the Global Ducan cross-border shopping platform from this Friday, expanding access to international e-commerce while simplifying payments for local customers.
Global Ducan announced the introduction of MVR payments through its social media platforms, marking another expansion of the service since its launch earlier this year. The new payment facility is expected to make online shopping from India considerably more convenient for Maldivian customers by reducing dependence on foreign currency transactions and removing additional currency conversion charges associated with international card payments.
Through the Global Ducan website and mobile application, customers in the Maldives can shop from major Indian online marketplaces and retailers including Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra, Nykaa, Nykaa Fashion and IKEA. The platform brings products from multiple retailers together within a single shopping environment, allowing customers to access a wider selection of goods without independently arranging purchases and deliveries from each retailer.
One of the platform’s key features is its “Unified Cart,” which allows customers to combine products selected from different participating online stores and complete their purchases through a single checkout transaction. This provides a more streamlined shopping experience and reduces the complexity traditionally associated with purchasing goods from multiple overseas retailers.
The addition of direct MVR payments is particularly significant for Maldivian consumers who have previously faced challenges associated with foreign exchange availability and international card transaction limits when purchasing products online. Processing payments locally in Rufiyaa provides customers with greater clarity over the final cost of their purchases while reducing exposure to additional currency conversion expenses.
The service also addresses one of the long-standing logistical challenges faced by Maldivians purchasing goods from Indian e-commerce platforms. Many Indian retailers require customers to provide a verified physical delivery address within India, making direct purchases difficult for consumers living in the Maldives.
Global Ducan provides an integrated solution by consolidating purchases and facilitating the forwarding of goods from India to the Maldives. Customers are provided with transparent pricing and an organised delivery process, bringing international ordering, logistics and domestic distribution under a single digital platform.
Maldives Post Limited manages the local logistics component of the service, enabling parcels ordered through Global Ducan to be delivered directly to customers in Malé as well as communities across the atolls. The involvement of the national postal network strengthens the platform’s ability to serve customers beyond the capital and gives residents across the country greater access to products available through major regional e-commerce platforms.
The service is also expected to benefit Maldivian entrepreneurs and small online businesses that regularly source products and merchandise from India. Easier access to MVR payments and consolidated shipping could simplify procurement for smaller businesses while allowing them to better manage purchasing costs and inventory.
Global Ducan was introduced in May 2026 through cooperation between Maldives Post Limited and India Post with the objective of simplifying cross-border trade and e-commerce between the Maldives and India. The platform combines international purchasing, regional forwarding and domestic postal distribution, creating a more accessible route for Maldivian customers to purchase products from the Indian market.
Since its introduction, Global Ducan has sought to remove several barriers traditionally faced by Maldivian online shoppers, including Indian address requirements, complicated forwarding arrangements, fragmented shipping processes and uncertainty over final delivery costs. The introduction of MVR billing addresses another major element of the purchasing process by offering customers a payment experience designed specifically for the Maldivian market.
The expanded service comes as digital commerce continues to grow in the Maldives and consumers increasingly look towards regional online marketplaces for greater product choice and competitive pricing. Strengthening payment and logistics connections with neighbouring markets can also support broader efforts to improve digital accessibility, consumer convenience and commercial connectivity across the archipelago.
With ordering, payment, international forwarding and domestic delivery increasingly integrated within one service, Global Ducan is positioned to make cross-border online shopping more accessible to Maldivians regardless of where they live. Customers requiring assistance with orders and deliveries can continue to contact Maldives Post through its dedicated customer support call centre and website messaging services.
