.Here Baa Atoll has secured two major honours at the AHEAD Asia 2026 Awards, winning the Landscaping & Outdoor Spaces and Suite categories and strengthening the Maldives’ international reputation as a destination where luxury hospitality, architectural creativity and the natural environment are brought together at the highest level.
The recognition celebrates the distinctive design philosophy behind .Here Baa Atoll, a highly exclusive private island retreat located within the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Baa Atoll. The property was recognised for the way its architecture, interiors and landscape have been developed as a single, carefully coordinated experience shaped around the natural character of the Maldivian islands.
The awards follow .Here Baa Atoll’s inclusion in the AHEAD Asia 2026 shortlist, which was selected from a record field of more than 220 entries from across the region. The project was recognised alongside its creative partners Kulör Group, Muza Lab and Topo Design Studio, highlighting the collaborative approach behind the resort’s architectural, interior and landscape identity.
Unlike larger conventional resorts, .Here Baa Atoll has been designed around an intentionally intimate hospitality concept. The retreat comprises only nine expansive private residences spread across two natural islands known as Somewhere and Nowhere, providing guests with a strong sense of privacy, space and direct connection with the surrounding ocean environment.
Its limited number of residences allows the resort to place greater emphasis on individual space and the natural landscape. Rather than creating a dense development, the property has been shaped around the existing character of the islands, allowing vegetation, beaches, lagoon views and open skies to remain central to the guest experience. The result is a residential-style retreat where the Maldives’ natural environment plays an essential role in the overall design.
The architectural concept was developed by Christopher Chua of Kulör Group, while the interiors were created by Inge Moore of London-based Muza Lab. Both disciplines were guided by the principle that the buildings should feel connected to their setting instead of appearing separate from it. Interior and exterior areas transition naturally into one another, while the choice of materials, textures and tones reflects the calm visual character of the islands.
Large openings and carefully positioned living spaces frame views of the lagoon, horizon and sky, allowing natural light and changing ocean conditions to become part of the architectural experience throughout the day. The buildings have been positioned to make full use of sunrise and sunset views, while the overall layout follows the natural contours of the islands.
The residences balance large open living environments with more private and intimate areas, giving guests both spacious communal settings and quieter spaces overlooking the sea. Movement between shaded spaces, beaches, landscaped areas and the ocean has also been carefully considered to create a continuous relationship between the built environment and the surrounding landscape.
Environmental considerations form an important part of the resort’s approach. Passive cooling techniques and responsibly sourced materials have been incorporated into the project, while the development has been designed to work with the natural characteristics of the islands. Native vegetation has also been retained wherever possible, helping preserve the established identity of the island environment.
Inside the residences, Muza Lab has drawn inspiration from the maritime heritage of the Maldives through bespoke furnishings, handcrafted details and natural textures. Elements associated with traditional Maldivian dhonis, navigation by the stars and the changing colours of the Indian Ocean have been interpreted in a contemporary manner, allowing the interiors to retain a strong connection to the destination without relying on overt decorative themes.
The individual residences also draw inspiration from the marine environment surrounding Baa Atoll. Their names reference coral reefs and underwater formations found within the region, reinforcing the connection between the resort’s design language and the rich marine ecosystem for which the atoll is internationally recognised.
The Landscaping & Outdoor Spaces award particularly acknowledges the way the resort has integrated its built environment with the existing island landscape. Topo Design Studio, working alongside Kulör Group and Muza Lab, approached the landscape as an extension of the architecture, shaping pathways, gardens and shared areas around the relationship between vegetation, shoreline, sea and sky.
Instead of substantially altering the islands to accommodate the development, the design approach focuses on allowing the existing landscape to retain its prominence. Pathways are integrated among native vegetation, while outdoor spaces have been positioned to open towards the surrounding waters and natural scenery. This approach has enabled the resort to maintain the distinctive atmosphere of a Maldivian island while providing an internationally recognised luxury hospitality environment.
The Suite award recognises the residential experience at the centre of .Here Baa Atoll. Rather than offering traditional hotel rooms, the retreat consists entirely of large private residences designed around space, privacy and ocean views. Expansive living areas are balanced with secluded personal spaces, while the architecture continuously reconnects guests with the beaches, lagoon and horizon.
The awards also reflect the strength of the collaboration between Seaside Hotels & Resorts, Kulör Group, Muza Lab and Topo Design Studio. The same project team was credited across the Landscaping & Outdoor Spaces and Suite categories, demonstrating how architecture, interior design and landscape planning were developed together rather than as separate components.
With the Asia winners advancing to compete with recognised projects from other regions, .Here Baa Atoll will now progress to the next AHEAD Global edition, where winning hospitality projects from around the world will be considered at an international level.
The success of .Here Baa Atoll adds further international recognition to the Maldives’ luxury tourism sector and highlights the country’s ability to attract hospitality developments that combine high-end accommodation with environmentally sensitive design. Located within one of the Maldives’ most internationally recognised natural regions, the resort demonstrates how small-scale, highly private tourism concepts can be designed around the ecological and visual qualities of the destination.
