Maldives Islamic Bank (MIB) has received international recognition from Cambridge IFA for its efforts to advance women’s professional development and expand opportunities for female employees to progress into leadership positions within the financial services sector.

The bank was presented with the prestigious WOMANi Leadership Award for Career Advancement 2026, recognising MIB’s continued efforts to create a professional environment in which women are supported in developing their careers, strengthening their capabilities and taking on greater leadership responsibilities across different areas of the organisation.

The recognition reflects MIB’s focus on building a workplace where professional advancement is based on capability, performance and opportunity, while enabling talented employees to contribute meaningfully to the bank’s continued development. Through its commitment to workforce development, the bank has placed emphasis on providing employees with opportunities to strengthen their professional expertise and prepare for senior responsibilities.

Further highlighting the bank’s growing representation in the international Islamic finance community, five female leaders from MIB have also been featured in the WOMANi Report 2026, which recognises prominent women making notable contributions to Islamic finance and the broader financial services industry.

According to MIB, the five women were recognised for their professional achievements, leadership and valuable contributions to the financial services sector. Their inclusion in the international report demonstrates the increasing presence of Maldivian professionals within the global Islamic finance industry and highlights the capabilities of women serving in senior and influential roles within the country’s financial sector.

MIB attributed the international recognition to the dedication and performance of its talented female employees, who continue to play an important role in the bank’s institutional development and service delivery. The bank said their contribution has been instrumental in strengthening different areas of its operations and supporting its continued growth.

The bank reaffirmed its commitment to developing professional talent, providing equal opportunities for career advancement and ensuring that employees are able to pursue leadership responsibilities without gender discrimination. MIB also reiterated its commitment to empowering women and creating pathways through which female professionals can further strengthen their expertise and progress within the organisation.

The recognition from Cambridge IFA adds further international visibility to the Maldives’ developing Islamic finance sector and reflects positively on the country’s efforts to strengthen professional capacity, encourage inclusive participation in the workforce and develop skilled Maldivian professionals capable of contributing to financial services at both national and international levels.

As Islamic finance continues to expand internationally, the recognition of MIB and its female leaders demonstrates the growing contribution of Maldivian financial institutions and professionals to the sector. The award also highlights the importance of investing in human capital and creating sustainable professional development opportunities as the Maldives continues to strengthen its financial services industry and build a capable workforce for the future.
