Visit Maldives has officially partnered with the South Asian Travel Awards 2026 as the Official Destination Partner, strengthening the Maldives’ contribution to regional tourism cooperation and supporting the recognition of excellence across South Asia’s travel and hospitality industry.

The partnership was formalised during the SATA 2026 Partnership Signing Ceremony held at Barceló Nasandhura Malé. Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Visit Maldives, Ibrahim Shiuree, signed the partnership agreement on behalf of the national tourism promotion organisation, alongside other industry partners supporting the upcoming awards.

The ceremony marked the beginning of preparations for the 10th edition of the South Asian Travel Awards, an important regional platform that brings together leading resorts, hotels, destinations, airlines, tour operators, tourism organisations and industry professionals from across South Asia.

Barceló Nasandhura Malé provided a distinguished hospitality setting for the signing ceremony, reflecting the Maldives’ growing capacity to host high-level tourism events, business gatherings, conferences and regional industry engagements. The selection of a prominent hospitality property in Malé for the occasion also highlighted the expanding role of the capital region in complementing the country’s internationally renowned island resort experience.

As the Official Destination Partner, Visit Maldives will play an important role in supporting SATA 2026 and promoting the Maldives throughout the awards programme. The partnership is expected to provide further opportunities to showcase the country’s diverse tourism offerings, including its luxury resorts, private island experiences, guesthouses, liveaboards, wellness retreats, marine attractions and high-quality hospitality services.

The cooperation reflects the Government of Maldives’ continued commitment to strengthening the tourism industry through constructive engagement with regional and international partners. It also supports national efforts to maintain the Maldives’ position as one of the world’s leading destinations while encouraging investment, innovation, service excellence and sustainable tourism development.

The Maldives is globally recognised for its collection of world-class island resorts, each offering distinctive accommodation, personalised services and access to the country’s exceptional natural environment. From private villas surrounded by turquoise lagoons to internationally managed properties providing premium dining, recreation, family experiences and marine activities, the resort sector continues to remain central to the strength and international reputation of the Maldivian tourism industry.

The partnership with SATA 2026 will provide an additional platform for Maldivian resorts and tourism businesses to engage with key stakeholders, exchange industry knowledge and receive regional recognition for their achievements. It will also allow the Maldives to present its hospitality standards, destination management expertise and tourism development experience to a wider South Asian and international audience.

Over the past decade, the South Asian Travel Awards has developed into one of the region’s respected tourism recognition programmes, celebrating achievements across hospitality, aviation, travel services and destination management. The awards encourage tourism organisations and professionals to maintain high standards, introduce innovative services and contribute to the continued development of the regional tourism economy.

The 10th edition of SATA is expected to bring together tourism leaders and industry representatives from across South Asia to recognise outstanding performance, encourage collaboration and discuss opportunities shaping the future of travel and hospitality in the region.

Visit Maldives’ role as Official Destination Partner further demonstrates the organisation’s efforts to position the Maldives not only as a preferred leisure destination, but also as an attractive venue for international tourism events, conferences, award ceremonies and professional gatherings.

Visit Maldives remains committed to working closely with regional and international partners to promote the Maldives across global markets and support initiatives that contribute to sustainable tourism growth, stronger regional cooperation and the long-term development of the travel and hospitality industry.
