The Ambassador of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the Republic of Maldives, His Excellency Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani, attended the official inauguration of the Annual Maldives–Saudi Arabia Joint Dhaura Programme, which commenced in the Maldives this evening.
The programme is jointly organised by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments of the Republic of Maldives and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Da’wah and Guidance of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The opening ceremony brought together senior government officials and representatives from both countries, alongside Maldivian religious scholars, mosque imams and young khatibs participating in the scholarly sessions.
Through structured lectures, scholarly discussions and guided study sessions, the Dhaura Programme provides participants with an opportunity to strengthen their understanding of authentic Islamic teachings and further develop their capacity to serve their communities. The programme is particularly significant for mosque imams, khatibs and religious professionals whose responsibilities include delivering sermons, providing religious guidance and promoting Islamic awareness across the Maldives.
The annual initiative also contributes to the professional and scholarly development of younger khatibs by enabling them to benefit from specialised instruction and engage with experienced scholars. It supports the transmission of sound Islamic knowledge while encouraging religious professionals to apply scholarly principles responsibly and appropriately within the contemporary social context of the Maldives.
The participation of His Excellency Ambassador Yahya Hassan Al-Qahtani at the inauguration reflects the continued commitment of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to supporting Islamic education, scholarly development and religious capacity-building initiatives in the Maldives. His presence also highlights the importance attached by both countries to advancing cooperation in areas of shared religious, educational and cultural interest.
The programme represents another expression of the strong and enduring relationship between the Republic of Maldives and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Bilateral cooperation between the two countries has continued to expand across a range of fields, with Islamic affairs, education, scholarly exchange and institutional development remaining important areas of collaboration.
The Annual Maldives–Saudi Arabia Joint Dhaura Programme has become an important platform for promoting moderate and authentic Islamic values, strengthening the competencies of religious professionals and encouraging the continued pursuit of Islamic scholarship. It also provides a valuable setting for exchanging knowledge and experiences between Maldivian participants and scholars associated with Saudi Arabia’s religious institutions.
The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Endowments of the Maldives expressed its sincere appreciation to Ambassador Al-Qahtani, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Saudi Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Da’wah and Guidance for their continued cooperation and valuable support in facilitating the annual programme.
The Ministry noted that the partnership plays an important role in strengthening Islamic education and institutional capacity in the Maldives while further consolidating the longstanding friendship and close cooperation between the Maldivian and Saudi governments and their peoples.
