The Maldives and Egypt have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in internal security, reflecting a shared commitment to stronger institutional collaboration and professional capacity building between the two countries. According to Maldives Police Service, the agreement establishes a framework for cooperation between Maldives Police Service and Egypt’s Ministry of Interior in key areas including training programmes, resource sharing and the exchange of information. The MoU was signed on behalf of the Maldives by Commissioner of Police Ahmed Mohamed, while Egypt was represented by General Mahmoud Abu Amra, Deputy Minister for Public Security and Head of the Supreme Council of the Police.
The agreement follows the Commissioner of Police’s official visit to Egypt from 17 to 21 of this month, during which senior officials from both sides held discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation, broadening information exchange and creating wider opportunities for training and professional development. The visit provided an important platform for both institutions to discuss practical avenues for closer engagement, with a particular focus on improving operational knowledge, strengthening professional networks and supporting the continued development of policing capabilities.
The signing of the MoU reflects the Maldives’ continued efforts to build strong international partnerships that contribute to the advancement of national security institutions and public service delivery. For the Maldives, cooperation of this nature supports the development of a modern and responsive policing framework by opening access to international expertise, structured training opportunities and institutional learning. Such partnerships are also significant in reinforcing public confidence, supporting social stability and contributing to a secure national environment that underpins the country’s broader economic and development priorities, including its globally recognised tourism and hospitality sector.
For global readers, the agreement highlights the importance the Maldives places on international cooperation as it continues to strengthen national institutions and expand its engagement with trusted partners abroad. Egypt’s experience in public security and institutional policing offers valuable opportunities for professional exchange, while the collaboration also reflects the growing scope of bilateral relations between the two countries. With the new understanding now in place, the Maldives and Egypt are expected to pursue closer coordination in areas that support safer communities, stronger law enforcement capabilities and sustained cooperation in matters of shared interest.
