The Maldives Monetary Authority has opened the Call for Papers for the MMA Research Conference 2026, inviting abstract submissions for what will be the institution’s third annual research conference. Held under the theme “Macroeconomic and Financial Stability for Sustainable Development Amid Structural and Global Transitions,” the conference is set to provide an important platform for advancing research, encouraging informed policy discussions, and strengthening engagement between the Maldives and the wider international research community.
The annual conference has steadily grown into a significant forum that brings together economic practitioners, researchers, policymakers, industry experts and academics from the Maldives and abroad to exchange ideas on pressing economic and policy issues. Through this initiative, the MMA continues to demonstrate its commitment to supporting a stronger research culture and encouraging collaborative inquiry on subjects that are highly relevant to the country’s long-term development priorities.
This year’s theme reflects the growing importance of maintaining macroeconomic and financial stability at a time when economies around the world are navigating structural change, external shocks and evolving global uncertainties. For the Maldives, a small island economy with close links to international markets, these discussions are especially relevant. The conference is expected to provide a timely setting for research that can help inform evidence-based policymaking and contribute to building a more resilient, inclusive and forward-looking economy.
The conference will welcome submissions across a broad range of thematic areas, highlighting the multidisciplinary nature of the event and the scope of issues facing modern economies. These include monetary policy and price stability, financial stability and regulation, Islamic finance, financial inclusion, digital finance and payment systems, climate risk, fiscal sustainability, structural transformation, housing and spatial economics, and health economics. By covering such diverse yet interconnected areas, the conference is positioned to encourage practical and policy-relevant discussions that can contribute meaningfully to national and regional economic thinking.
The MMA has opened participation to a wide group of contributors, including researchers and academics, staff of central banks and other public institutions, practitioners from multilateral institutions, think tanks and the private sector, as well as graduate students engaged in policy-relevant research. This inclusive approach is expected to enrich the quality of dialogue at the conference and promote stronger partnerships between institutions and individuals working on development-related challenges.
Abstract submissions are required to be in English and in Microsoft Word format, with a word count ranging from 150 to 250 words. To support an impartial review process, author details must not be included in the abstract document itself and should instead be entered only through the official submission form. The deadline for abstract submissions is 20 May 2026. Authors of selected abstracts will be notified on 3 June 2026, and full papers will be due by 3 September 2026.
With the Call for Papers now open, the MMA Research Conference 2026 is expected to attract valuable contributions from both local and international participants, further strengthening the Maldives’ role in regional and global economic discourse. The conference also reflects the country’s growing focus on research-driven solutions and constructive policy engagement, offering an encouraging opportunity for scholars and practitioners to contribute to sustainable development discussions that matter not only to the Maldives, but also to similarly placed economies navigating a changing global environment.
