Bank of Maldives has supported the development of a new sensory classroom at Aminiya School, further contributing to efforts to strengthen facilities and learning opportunities for students with special educational needs in the Maldives. The newly established classroom, named “IWonder,” has been created to provide a more supportive and suitable environment for students enrolled in the school’s SEN programme, which currently serves more than 170 students. The initiative reflects a continued commitment to improving access to inclusive education and ensuring that students with diverse learning needs are provided with spaces designed to help them thrive academically, socially, and developmentally.
The sensory classroom has been equipped to offer a more engaging and responsive learning setting, with features and resources intended to support the developmental needs of students in the SEN programme. Alongside the provision of specialised equipment, the project also included maintenance support and enhancements to the overall learning space, helping to create an environment that is both functional and welcoming. Such spaces play an important role in supporting children who benefit from tailored educational settings, enabling teachers and support staff to deliver learning experiences that are better aligned with each student’s individual needs and abilities.
This latest contribution by BML highlights the growing importance of inclusive education in the national development agenda, as schools across the country continue to expand programmes and facilities for students requiring additional support. By investing in purpose-built classrooms and specialised resources, institutions are able to foster more meaningful participation in education and create settings where every student is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. The “IWonder” classroom at Aminiya School is expected to enhance the daily learning experience of students while also strengthening the school’s ability to deliver dedicated support through its SEN programme.

In addition to these classroom development projects, BML has also provided equipment to SEN classes in 40 schools nationwide in recent years, broadening the reach of its support and helping more schools enhance the quality of education available to students with special educational needs.
