A new two-volume children’s colouring and activity book series inspired by the Maldives has been launched on Amazon, offering families a creative and engaging way to introduce young travellers to the beauty, culture and experiences of the island destination. Titled Your Maldives Holiday Adventure, the books are designed for children aged 4 to 8 years and combine bold, easy-to-colour illustrations, simple activities and fun facts that celebrate the charm of the Maldives. Created as an enjoyable travel companion, the series is intended to keep children entertained during flights, relaxed afternoons, or quiet moments in a villa while also building excitement around a family holiday in one of the world’s most admired tropical destinations.
The books present the Maldives through a child-friendly lens, transforming the destination’s natural beauty and memorable holiday experiences into pages that are both educational and enjoyable. Volume One takes young readers beneath the surface of the Indian Ocean to explore the country’s remarkable marine environment. Children are invited to colour tropical reef fish, sea turtles, coral gardens, snorkelling adventures and the serene lagoon life that has helped make the Maldives internationally renowned for its underwater beauty. The illustrations introduce children to the wonder of marine discovery while reflecting the vivid colours and peaceful atmosphere that define so many experiences in the destination’s waters.
Volume Two turns its attention to life above the water, highlighting the cultural richness, sustainability themes and distinctive experiences that shape a Maldives holiday. Through engaging activities and illustrations, children are introduced to aspects of island living and the thoughtful details that make time in the Maldives so memorable for visiting families. From the tranquillity of villas set against turquoise lagoons to the sense of discovery found in island surroundings, the book captures the warmth, beauty and uniqueness of a destination that continues to attract travellers from around the world. By blending creativity with storytelling, the series encourages children not only to colour, but also to connect with the spirit of the Maldives in a meaningful and imaginative way.
The series is published by Storyteller Press and written by Sharon Garrett, a tourism storyteller and hospitality marketing professional who has spent several years working in the Maldives tourism industry. Her professional background and experience in destination storytelling are reflected in the thoughtful concept behind the books, which aim to enrich the family travel experience while celebrating the distinctive appeal of the Maldives. Garrett explained that the idea emerged from reflecting on family holidays and the practical challenge of keeping young children engaged during travel or during breaks from outdoor activities.
Speaking about the inspiration behind the project, she said she kept returning to a simple but important question about family travel: what families could do with little ones who needed a break from the hot sun or when rainy weather interrupted holiday plans. She explained that this thought led to the idea of creating a colouring book that could serve as a fun and useful travel companion for families visiting the Maldives, allowing children to enjoy the destination in a different way during flights, in the villa, or even before the holiday begins. In this way, the books are designed not only as an activity, but also as a way to help children anticipate and better appreciate the experiences that await them.
Each volume is available for purchase individually and contains 25 colouring pages along with simple activities that are age-appropriate and easy for young children to enjoy. The accessible design ensures that the books can be used effortlessly by families while still celebrating the natural beauty, marine life, island culture and holiday atmosphere of the Maldives. For parents planning a family escape, the series offers a practical addition to the travel experience, combining entertainment with a gentle introduction to the destination’s environment and way of life.
Garrett also noted that she intentionally chose Amazon as the publishing platform because of its print-on-demand model, which allows books to be printed only when ordered. She described the approach as a smarter and more sustainable way to publish, eliminating the need to print and store large quantities of books and reducing unnecessary waste. This publishing method aligns well with the values increasingly embraced by travellers and tourism stakeholders who appreciate more responsible and efficient approaches to production and consumption.
The launch of Your Maldives Holiday Adventure also reflects the continued global appeal of the Maldives as a destination that inspires creativity across different forms of storytelling and publishing. Long celebrated for its turquoise waters, white sandy beaches, marine biodiversity and luxury resort experiences, the Maldives continues to capture the imagination of visitors of all ages. For families in particular, the destination offers not only natural beauty and relaxation, but also opportunities for discovery, learning and shared experiences that children can remember long after the holiday ends. By translating those elements into an engaging activity book format, the new series adds a fresh and thoughtful dimension to how the Maldives is experienced and remembered by younger audiences.
Garrett is already developing additional titles for other destinations and is currently working on a children’s colouring and activity book celebrating New Zealand’s South Wairarapa, the rural community where she now resides. The upcoming title will incorporate elements of Te Reo Māori language and local culture for young learners and is scheduled to launch alongside the Featherston Booktown Karukatea Festival 2026. With the release of the Maldives series, she has introduced a concept that combines tourism, education and family-friendly creativity in a way that is both practical and inspiring.
Your Maldives Holiday Adventure colouring books are available worldwide through Amazon.
