The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has formally handed over Zakat al-Fitr funds donated by the Red Crescent Society of the United Arab Emirates to the Ministry of Social and Family Development to support children under state care across the Maldives. The assistance has been specifically allocated to help ensure that children under state protection, including those with special needs, are able to celebrate Eid al-Fitr with dignity and joy through the provision of clothing, food, and special festive activities.
The donation from the UAE’s Red Crescent Society amounts to a total of USD 40,780.44. The contribution has been designated to support children living under state care by facilitating the purchase of Eid clothing and the distribution of food packages during the upcoming Eid celebrations. The initiative aims to provide meaningful support during one of the most significant occasions in the Islamic calendar, enabling children to take part in the spirit of Eid alongside communities throughout the country.
According to the Ministry of Social and Family Development, preparations are underway to organize a series of special Eid activities designed for children under state care. These celebrations will take place in the Greater Malé Region as well as across several atolls, ensuring that children in different parts of the country can participate in festive programmes and community gatherings arranged for the occasion. The planned activities will complement the distribution of clothing and food assistance, creating a more inclusive and memorable Eid experience for the children.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Social and Family Development reflects ongoing efforts by Maldivian institutions to coordinate humanitarian support and ensure that charitable contributions reach those who need them most. Through this partnership, the Zakat al-Fitr donation is being directed toward programmes that prioritize the wellbeing and happiness of vulnerable children during the Eid period.
The contribution from the Emirates Red Crescent also highlights the close and longstanding relationship between the Maldives and the United Arab Emirates. The continued support provided through humanitarian and charitable initiatives demonstrates a shared commitment between the two nations to assist vulnerable communities and promote social welfare. By supporting children under state care in the Maldives, the UAE’s Red Crescent Society is contributing to broader efforts aimed at strengthening community support systems and ensuring that the spirit of compassion and generosity associated with Ramadan and Eid reaches those who need it most.
