Ooredoo Maldives has donated specialised underwater dive equipment to the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), reinforcing the operational capabilities of the Coast Guard in conducting underwater safety, security and rescue missions across Maldivian waters. The contribution enhances the technological resources available to the MNDF, supporting critical maritime operations in a country where the ocean plays a central role in national security, economic activity and daily life.

The donated equipment introduces advanced tools designed to improve underwater communication and diver safety, both of which are essential for complex maritime tasks carried out beneath the surface. The package includes a digital dual-channel underwater communication system, an underwater loudspeaker and full-face diving masks. Together, these technologies enable clearer and more reliable communication between divers and surface teams, improve situational awareness during missions, and reduce operational risks in demanding underwater environments.

The official handover ceremony took place at Bandaara Koshi, where Khalid Al-Hamadi, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Ooredoo Maldives, presented the equipment to Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon. The equipment will be deployed by the Coast Guard under the MNDF, supporting a wide range of activities including search and rescue, underwater inspections, security operations and maintenance tasks.

The specialised dive equipment had previously been used during Ooredoo Maldives’ Guinness World Record attempt for the largest underwater panel discussion, held in B. Fulhadhoo in 2025 as part of the company’s 20th anniversary celebrations. That initiative was carried out with extensive operational support from the MNDF, and the redeployment of the equipment now ensures that these advanced tools continue to serve a long-term national purpose.

Speaking at the handover, Al-Hamadi emphasised that the donation reflects Ooredoo Maldives’ belief in using innovation to support the broader needs of the country. He noted that in an island nation where livelihoods, connectivity and safety are closely tied to the ocean, investing in technologies that enhance underwater operations contributes directly to national resilience and public safety.

Chief of Defence Force Major General Ibrahim Hilmy expressed appreciation for the donation, highlighting the importance of modern and reliable underwater equipment in strengthening the Coast Guard’s operational readiness. He stated that the new tools would improve the MNDF’s capacity to respond effectively to maritime incidents and conduct underwater missions with greater efficiency and safety.

Ooredoo Maldives stated that the initiative is part of its wider commitment to innovation, community engagement and national development, with a focus on leveraging technology to support essential services and strengthen institutional capabilities. The donation underscores the company’s ongoing role as a partner in advancing safety, security and sustainable development across the Maldives.
