A powerful gesture of sporting solidarity and hospitality is set to unfold in the Indian Ocean nation, as the Football Association of Maldives (FAM), with full support from the Government, prepares to host the Palestine under-17 national football team for a dedicated training camp ahead of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U-17 Asian Cup Qualifiers. The initiative brings together elite youth football and humanitarian support in a country already renowned among international visitors for its warm welcome and world-class hospitality.

The arrangement follows a formal appeal from the Palestine Football Association, which sought urgent assistance after escalating conflict and continued occupation by Israeli forces made regular training inside Palestine impossible. With stadiums, training grounds, and transport systems severely disrupted by the state of war and systemic obstruction, the Palestine U-17 squad has been forced to seek safe, stable conditions abroad in order to continue its preparations. Responding swiftly and decisively, Maldivian authorities and FAM opened the door for the young team to relocate their training programme temporarily to Malé.

The Palestine U-17 delegation is scheduled to arrive in the Maldivian capital on 10 November and will remain in the country until 19 November. During this period, the team will benefit from secure accommodation, reliable transport, and structured access to professional training facilities. In an official communication, FAM confirmed that the Government, under the leadership of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, has taken on full financial responsibility for the visit. This includes the cost of lodging, local transfers, and use of national training infrastructure, ensuring that the Palestinian players and staff can focus entirely on performance and preparation.

As part of the programme, the Palestine U-17 team will play two international friendly matches against the Maldives U-17 national side at the National Football Stadium in Malé, one on 13 November and another on 15 November. These fixtures will allow the young Palestinian footballers to test themselves in a competitive environment, while Maldivian fans and international visitors in the city will have the opportunity to witness youth football at a high level in an electric stadium atmosphere. The matches also provide valuable playing time and exposure for local Maldivian talents, underscoring the country’s growing football culture alongside its globally recognised tourism appeal.

To enhance the impact of this initiative and offer a direct way for supporters to contribute, FAM has launched a limited-edition souvenir ticket campaign, with all proceeds donated to the Palestine U-17 team. Two premium ticket categories are being offered. The “Souvenir Platinum” ticket, priced at USD 64.86, grants seating at the VVIP Rostrum, with availability limited to just 50 tickets, creating an exclusive experience for those who wish to show strong support. The “Souvenir Gold” ticket, priced at USD 32.43, offers VIP seating, with 200 tickets on offer for fans and well-wishers.

This structured fundraising mechanism ensures that every souvenir ticket purchased directly strengthens the visiting delegation’s operational and training resources. FAM has confirmed that 100% of the revenue from both ticket categories will be handed over to the Palestinian team, reinforcing the message that this hosting arrangement is more than a sporting exercise, it is a practical act of solidarity at a time of acute humanitarian difficulty for Palestinian athletes.

For visitors and football enthusiasts travelling to the Maldives during this period, the training camp and friendly matches present a unique chance to experience the country through a different lens: not only as a destination of pristine beaches and luxury resorts, but also as a nation that values compassion, youth development, and international cooperation through sport. By opening its facilities, investing public resources, and mobilising the local football community, the Maldives is aligning its renowned hospitality with a clear commitment to support young athletes whose daily lives and careers have been disrupted by conflict.

Through this initiative, FAM and the Government are sending a clear message to the global sporting community: that football can remain a platform for hope, resilience, and connection even under the most challenging circumstances and that visitors to the Maldives can be part of that story, cheering from the stands as the Palestine U-17 team continues its journey towards the AFC Asian Cup Qualifiers.
