Russia has reaffirmed its position as one of the most vital contributors to the tourism economy of the Maldives, with official figures confirming over 200,000 Russian travelers having visited the archipelago so far in 2025. This remarkable milestone places Russia as the second-largest source market for the island nation, contributing 12.2% of all international arrivals this year.
Data released by the Ministry of Tourism and Environment reveal that a total of 203,737 Russian tourists entered the Maldives as of October 5, 2025. This influx comes as China continues to hold the top position with 274,698 visitors, accounting for the largest share among all source markets. Close behind Russia, the United Kingdom (146,805 visitors), Germany (117,406), and Italy (113,719) remain strong contenders, keeping European representation robust within the top five.
The tourism industry has witnessed a 10 percent increase in arrivals compared to the same period last year, showcasing the sector’s continued appeal and resilience. With an average of 6,500 tourists arriving daily, the Maldives is on a steady course toward achieving its annual target of 2.2 million arrivals. To reach this goal, approximately 600,000 more visitors are needed in the final months of the year—an attainable figure given the current momentum.
This steady rise in numbers further underscores the Maldives’ global reputation as a premier travel destination, attracting a diverse mix of travelers drawn by its pristine beaches, luxury resorts, and unique natural beauty. The government’s efforts in enhancing tourism infrastructure, ensuring safety and accessibility, and maintaining the ecological sustainability of the islands continue to be critical in supporting these growing figures.
As one of the pillars of the Maldivian economy, tourism plays a key role in national development and international engagement. The continued growth of arrivals from major markets like Russia is a strong testament to the country’s enduring appeal and strategic positioning in the global tourism landscape.
