Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives has once again proven its excellence on the regional stage, celebrating two Gold awards at the 9th South Asian Travel Awards (SATA) 2025. The ceremony, held on 20 September at Cinnamon Grand Colombo, brought together leaders in hospitality from across South Asia to honour the very best in the travel industry. Out of the 53 Gold and 113 Silver titles awarded across Sri Lanka, India, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, and Bangladesh, Cinnamon Maldives stood out with victories that highlight both its legacy and its growing reputation for exceptional guest experiences.

Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives, situated in North Malé Atoll, proudly claimed the title of Leading Surf Resort for the seventh time, marking its third consecutive win. Famous among surfers worldwide for its legendary Pasta Point break, the resort is recognised as one of the most consistent and thrilling surf spots in the region. Beyond the waves, guests enjoy a complete island escape with water sports, spa and wellness experiences, and authentic Maldivian cultural encounters. This blend of adventure and relaxation has firmly positioned Dhonveli as a favourite destination for surf enthusiasts and leisure travellers alike.

Meanwhile, Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives, a private island haven nestled within the pristine Vaavu Atoll, celebrated a milestone achievement by securing its first-ever Gold as Leading Beach Resort. Surrounded by turquoise waters and powder-white sands, Velifushi is known for its breathtaking overwater and beachfront villas, offering uninterrupted views of the ocean. The resort’s emphasis on wellness, fine dining, and family-friendly experiences creates an idyllic balance for travellers seeking both luxury and tranquillity. Its recognition at SATA 2025 reflects not only the island’s natural beauty but also the dedication of its team in delivering unforgettable moments to guests.

Speaking on the achievement, Sanjeeva Perera, Area General Manager for Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives, highlighted the unique stories behind the two awards: “For us, these two awards tell a story of legacy and new milestones. Cinnamon Dhonveli Maldives, with its iconic Pasta Point, continues to remain the heartbeat of the surf community. At the same time, Cinnamon Velifushi Maldives’ first Gold as Leading Beach Resort is a celebration of natural beauty and the passion of our teams who create memories that last a lifetime.”

This year’s SATA also spotlighted the wider region’s travel strengths: the Maldives was named Leading Adventure Destination, while Bhutan earned the title of Leading Heritage Destination. These recognitions further underline South Asia’s diversity in tourism offerings, from adrenaline-fuelled ocean experiences to rich cultural legacies.

With this double victory, Cinnamon Hotels & Resorts Maldives reinforces its role as a key player in shaping the Maldives’ image as not just a destination of luxury, but also one of adventure, serenity, and authentic island living. For international travellers seeking the ultimate blend of world-class hospitality and natural wonders, the Maldives continues to stand tall as a destination that captures the imagination.
