As part of his official state visit to Singapore, His Excellency President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed visited the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Headquarters and ITE College Central today, reinforcing a new phase of collaboration in technical and vocational education between the two countries. The President was accompanied by a senior delegation from the Maldives, which included officials from the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development.

The delegation was warmly received by Dr Goh Mong Song, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of ITE. During the visit, the Maldivian delegation was given a comprehensive briefing by the institute’s senior management, who welcomed the Maldives as an institutional partner. The visit followed the recent signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between ITE and the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development of the Republic of Maldives, under which both parties agreed to collaborate in the areas of higher education, educational policy, technical and vocational education, and applied research.

ITE, through its subsidiary ITE Education Services (ITEES), works with international governments and organisations to deliver customised training programmes and capacity-building solutions. Its international reputation is built on combining hands-on technical instruction with soft skills training, making its graduates highly competitive in a fast-evolving labour market. The curriculum at ITE is developed in close consultation with industry experts to ensure alignment with global workforce demands.
During the engagement, ITE officials reaffirmed their commitment to support the Maldives in developing and modernising its vocational training systems. President Dr Muizzu expressed appreciation for ITE’s hospitality and highlighted the importance of adapting such world-class training models to the Maldives’ national development goals. He noted that the partnership would facilitate the design of practical, industry-relevant courses tailored to the Maldivian context and provide pathways for students to acquire valuable skills that contribute to sustainable growth.
The delegation toured several of ITE’s advanced learning facilities, including the User Experience Hub at the School of Design and Media, InvITE at the School of Business Services, and the Aerospace Hub at the School of Engineering. These state-of-the-art centres exemplify ITE’s innovative approach to education, combining technical proficiency with creativity, problem-solving, and real-world industry engagement.

The visit reaffirmed a shared commitment to human capital development between the Maldives and Singapore. It marks a strategic step in expanding educational cooperation as part of a broader effort to strengthen institutional capacities and prepare Maldivian youth for future job markets. This collaboration aligns closely with the Maldives’ Vision 2040 strategy, which places strong emphasis on investing in knowledge, innovation, and skills development to support the country’s transition toward a diversified and resilient economy.
