Embudu Village, a long-standing favourite among international travellers, has been awarded the prestigious Travelife Gold Certification, reaffirming its role as a responsible and environmentally conscious destination in the Maldives. Nestled in the South Malé Atoll, this resort is part of Kaimoo Resorts & Hotels, a Maldivian-owned hospitality brand known for promoting sustainability while offering authentic island experiences.

The Travelife Gold Certification is a globally respected benchmark in sustainable tourism. It is granted only to hotels and resorts that demonstrate outstanding performance in areas such as environmental management, biodiversity protection, community engagement, and ethical labour practices. The certification process involves a rigorous on-site audit conducted by an independent auditor, followed by an extensive quality assurance review before final approval. Travelife’s evaluation criteria are based on internationally recognised sustainability standards and align with the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) framework.

Previously, Embudu Village held the Travelife Silver Certification. However, following a recent assessment, the resort has successfully advanced to the Gold level by meeting a higher set of criteria. This upgrade reflects its continuous improvement in minimising its environmental footprint and maximising its positive impact on the local community.

“This reflects our longstanding commitment to sustainable tourism and protecting the natural beauty of the Maldives,” said Mr. Ramsay Perera, General Manager of Kaimoo Resorts. “Our team is thrilled to be recognised with the Travelife Gold Certification. It reaffirms the values we uphold and the daily efforts our staff put into preserving the environment and fostering meaningful connections with the community.”

Embudu Village has consistently implemented practices aimed at energy efficiency, waste reduction, and marine conservation. The resort encourages guest participation in eco-friendly initiatives such as coral restoration and reef-safe behaviour during snorkelling and diving. It also supports local employment, purchases from nearby suppliers, and invests in training staff on sustainable operations.

Being among the earliest resorts established in the Maldives tourism sector, Embudu Village combines its rich heritage in island hospitality with forward-looking environmental responsibility. The Gold Certification not only honours these efforts but also provides assurance to eco-conscious travellers seeking a holiday that aligns with their values.

This achievement further highlights the Maldives’ growing reputation as a sustainable luxury destination, where natural beauty and responsible tourism development are harmoniously balanced. With the Travelife Gold Certification, Embudu Village continues to raise the standard for responsible travel, offering guests a more thoughtful and environmentally mindful experience in one of the world’s most iconic island settings.
