The increase in tourist arrivals is ascribed to a rise in travelers from Western Europe, a historically important source of tourism for the Maldives, and China, which dominated the market before to the pandemic.
China is now the country from which the most tourists travel to the Maldives, followed by Italy in second place and Russia in third, according to the Ministry of Tourism’s most recent figures.
